When customers walk in to Jullienna’s Cabinetry Design, owner Jullienna Horne wants them to feel right at home.
The one-year-old Pacific Beach business specializes in the design of kitchen and bathroom cabinets, but what makes it unique is Horne’s personal touch.
“They have the opportunity to design with me what they want,” Horne said.
Horne designs kitchens and bathrooms with her clients, giving them a hands-on experience. She even has a TV in her office connected to her computer that allow customers to see exactly what their dream kitchen or bathroom will look like.
Horne started the business after working six years as a designer at Lowe’s. She said it was time for her to move on.
“I felt like there was a potential in me and if I didn’t do it, I would never have known what my possibilities were,” she said.
In February, Horne went on a Cedar fire rebuild tour in Alpine. Her goal was to assist in the rebuild by providing her design services for free.
“What I witnessed was incredible,” Horne said. “These people went through such a devastation. One minute they have their home and the next minute everything is gone.”
Horne said if those rebuilding their homes purchased cabinets, she gave them her design services for free. Her home consultations were also free.
“If I can be a part of rebuilding this community,” Horne said, “I’m all over it.”
Horne remembers in particular an experience when she visited a family that lost their home and avocado orchard in the fires. She was asking what the person would like to see in their new home.
“She started to draw the picture of her future home. As she was drawing it, she was telling me she wanted to build a birdhouse with a water fountain inside of the middle of her home,” Horne said. “I thought that it was amazing that she wanted to bring nature into her house.
“I thought that was the most inspiring thing to hear from her after she went through this huge devastation.”
Horne said that family has not yet broken ground on their new home. Nonetheless, she is excited about the prospects of designing this part of their dream home.
Using MasterBrand cabinetry and Caesarstone quartz countertops, Horne said it takes her about two to four hours to design a kitchen, depending on what a customer wants. She charges $175 per hour (with the first hour free) and credits any money spent on an appointment toward a cabinet purchase.
According to Horne, a good budget to work with when redesigning a kitchen is $25,000. But she said she has designed projects that cost as little as $5,000 and as much as $95,000. No matter what the cost, Horne said she does her best to save customers money.
“I like to hit underneath their budget,” Horne said.
As customers design dream kitchens and bathrooms at Jullienna’s Cabinetry Design, their dreams aren’t the only dreams coming true.
“This is my dream,” Horne said. “This is my dream come true.”
