{"id":297289,"date":"2009-10-21T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-10-21T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/qa-pbtc-president-explains-goals-purpose-of-town-council\/"},"modified":"2009-10-21T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2009-10-21T07:00:00","slug":"qa-pbtc-president-explains-goals-purpose-of-town-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/qa-pbtc-president-explains-goals-purpose-of-town-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Q&#038;A: PBTC president explains goals, purpose of Town Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rick Oldham is the president of the Pacific Beach Town Council (PBTC), a 58-year-old volunteer-based nonprofit organization whose mission is enhancing, improving and protecting the community of Pacific Beach. <b>P:<\/b> What are your goals moving forward? <b>Oldham:<\/b> &#8220;My drive continues to be getting PB cleaned up \u2013 street sweeping and ridding the area of litter issues we have.&#8221; The Town Council\u2019s Safe and Beautiful Committee holds cleanup events the first Saturday of every month. During the October cleanup, 26 volunteers removed several hundred pounds of trash, Oldham said. He credits the work of the Safe and Beautiful Committee with helping the Town Council become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. In addition to continuing to clean up the community, Oldham said he is also looking forward to future Town Council events such as Concerts on the Green, the annual wine tasting fundraiser and maintaining the Rose Creek Cottage. <b>P:<\/b> What would you tell someone who is considering joining the Town Council? <b>Oldham:<\/b> &#8220;We\u2019re working on community issues and working with City Council to make our community a better place. I invite them to join us in that quest. We\u2019re looking for people to join us in our mission of making our community as nice a place as we can.&#8221; <b>P:<\/b> What\u2019s your favorite part of being on the Town Council? <b>Oldham:<\/b> &#8220;Working with various groups to try to make it a better place for all of us to live. A lot of people misconstrue what the PB Town Council does. People approach us with street issues and other concerns and ask us to do something about it. We\u2019re not a governing entity; we have to work through City Council.&#8221; Oldham said one of the town council\u2019s primary jobs is &#8220;getting issues pushed up the ladder to the City Council. It\u2019s hard work but it\u2019s worth it.&#8221; <b>P:<\/b> What\u2019s your favorite thing about living in Pacific Beach? <b>Oldham:<\/b> &#8220;I\u2019ve lived here a long time \u2026 the beach, the ocean, the scenery and being close to the water.&#8221; In addition to serving on the board of directors as past president, Oldham plans to continue his involvement with the Safe and Beautiful Committee and other Town Council programs and events. He also wants to see more residents become active participants in their community. &#8220;I want more people to get involved,&#8221; Oldham said.
