The boys were fifth in the Coastal and fourth in the South League.
All-League performers for Bishop’s included Laura Wyatt, Elizabeth Schultze, Naomi Wagner, Elizabeth Mills and Alicia Triana. All-Conference performers were Wyatt, Schulze, Wagner and Mills.
On the boys side, Henry Su and Andy Morgosh finished as All-League, with Su also being named All-Conference.
This weekend, the teams move on to Morley Field for the CIF Championships.
“The Bishop’s girls’ are looking very good for a possible CIF Division IV title,” Bishop’s head coach Mary Fran Cullen noted.
At La Jolla High, the boys squad came in third last week at the Western League Finals at Morley Field, finishing behind University City and Scripps Ranch.
The La Jolla High junior varsity squad ended the season third in the league, also behind UC and Scripps Ranch.
“The PRs (personal records) speak for themselves … these are great achievements and should be the benchmark for them when we begin again next season,” La Jolla High head boys coach Hal Goforth said. “Summer conditioning will make these PR times look slow and should be achieved early in the season next year.”
Goforth noted that individual achievements have been numerous. La Jolla had five runners who placed in the Top 15 of their races and received individual medals: Trevor Dorne, Angel Mendoza (both All-League runners) for the varsity; and Daniel Holl, Zak Wescoe and Levi Ramos for the jayvees. Mike Conroy is a freshman, but it must not go unnoticed that he, as a freshman was the varsity’s third-place runner. Additionally, he was the first-place freshman in the Western League with 16:57 ” a full :36 ahead of the second freshman.
“We have all learned a lot, me more than the runners,” Goforth said. “Runners have seen that hard work pays off over time and is the outcome of consistent, determined training. It has been a great pleasure to see these young men be transformed into quality cross-country runners.”
The La Jolla High girls finished as Western League co-champs with University City. La Jolla beat UC in the Western League dual meet, but UC returned the favor in the league finals.
La Jolla had three girls who broke the 19-minute barrier. Courtney Avvampato finished in fourth (18:47), Nihal Kayali was sixth (18:51) and Margot Hedlin placed seventh (18:58). Other top finishes included Maya Gamble, Lily Howard, Tess Plant-Thomas and Maegan Bautista.
“They should be very proud of what they did ” I know I sure am,” La Jolla High head girls coach Roger Karnopp noted.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
The Bishop’s School cross-country teams saw action last week in the Coastal Conference Championships at Kit Carson Park in Escondido.Bishop’s girls squad took first place in the Coastal Conference as well as finishing as South League champs.
