{"id":296513,"date":"2015-01-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-01-23T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/fourth-annual-hungry-dog-dash-5k-at-liberty-station-on-feb-1\/"},"modified":"2015-01-23T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-01-23T08:00:00","slug":"fourth-annual-hungry-dog-dash-5k-at-liberty-station-on-feb-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/fourth-annual-hungry-dog-dash-5k-at-liberty-station-on-feb-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Cuarta carrera anual Hungry Dog Dash 5K en Liberty Station el 1 de febrero"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four years ago, boosters of the Point Loma High School cross country team worked to create a running event that would be fun and involve persons of all ages.<br \/>\nNext month, the fourth annual Hungry Dog Dash 5K run\/walk takes place on a beautiful course at Liberty Station with proceeds going to the Pointer long-distance runners.<br \/>\nHundreds of participants will leave the starting line at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1 at NTC Park within Liberty Station&#8217;s expansive acreage.<br \/>\nMembers of the Pointer cross country team will be working in various capacities to help stage the race.<br \/>\nThe top three male and female runners in each of numerous age divisions \u2013 spanning from 10 and under to 60 and over \u2013 will receive awards, while the first 300 finishers will also receive a commemorative dog tag.<br \/>\nRegistration prices are $20 (elementary school age), $25 (high school age) and $30 (adults) for those who sign up online by Jan. 31 at www.hungrydogdash.com. All fees increase $5 for day-of-race registration.<br \/>\nFees include an official race T-shirt and goody bag.<br \/>\nElementary schools are being challenged to enter as a team, bring a school banner or flag and even run in team themes or costumes.<br \/>\nA Poker Run will also be incorporated in the 5K, with entrants picking up cards at stops along the race course. The finisher with the best poker hand will win a special prize.<br \/>\nThe race course is certified and the event sanctioned by USA Track &#038; Field. Strollers and dogs are also welcome on the course.<br \/>\nEvent organizers promise lots of fun at the finish line too, with a Vendor Village, carnival games and live music performances and more.<br \/>\nThrough a partnership with the Sports Chalet, 3695 Midway Dr., entrants can pick up their race bib, T-shirt and goody bag between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. the day before the race.<br \/>\nThe Pointer cross country team includes over 60 boys and girls under the leadership of head coach Keith DeLong. Distance running&#8217;s benefits include growth and maturity in the areas of citizenship, dedication, responsibility, teamwork and character. Every PLHS team member participates in team events regardless of ability. LOOKING AHEAD: A lacrosse &#8220;Laxfest&#8221; will take place at PLHS Feb. 8 and 15. Boys and girls in grades K-8 are invited to learn and sharpen their skills from 1:30-4:30 p.m. each day on the school&#8217;s stadium field. The Pointer coaching staff and varsity players will provide one-on-one instruction. Cost is $75 per player and includes a Pointer lacrosse T-shirt. E-mail plhslax@gmail.com for information. The annual youth track and field meet staged by Pointer coaches and athletes in grades K-8 is set for Sunday, Apr. 12.
