La Jolla then lost to Monte Vista 33-26, as Stephanie Haskett scored eight to lead the team. “Even though we’ve lost our first two games, the girls are doing a great job,” coach Gary Frank noted. “They are working hard and have gotten better every single day.”
At The Bishop’s School, the Lady Knights rolled to a 66-29 win over Scripps Ranch last Friday.
Kathleen Roerhkasse (24 points) and Michelle Brunker combined for 41 points on the day. Elaina White chipped in with 11. Roerhkasse added 11 rebounds in the win.
Bishop’s (6-0 entering this week) followed that game up a day later with a 62-54 win over Santana on Dec. 9.
Roerhkasse tallied 28 points and 15 rebounds in the triumph, with Brunker adding 18 points.
La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) School went 3-1 at last week’s Mater Dei Tournament. The Lady Torreys topped Colony from Ontario 63-50, Dana Hills 62-28 and JW North 55-49. Their only loss came to Lynwood, 54-45.
After they beat J.W. North in a defensive battle, LJCD took on Lynwood in the title game last Saturday.
Scoring most of the first half went back and forth in the matchup with J.W. North, as Janae Fulcher once again dominated the inside with 17 points and 16 rebounds.
LJCD pulled away in the third quarter with some steals for lay-ups and half-court execution that sealed the victory. A great effort was also seen from Jamesha Townsend and Dominique Conners, who led the way defensively.
In the title game with 13th-ranked (nationally) Lynwood, LJCD got behind early. Lynnwood’s bench, with platoon subbing every 45 seconds, was too much for the Lady Torreys as they found themselves down 35-21 at halftime.
LJCD fought back to within seven at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but ran out of gas. Fulcher finished with 14 points and Conners with 12.
Next up for the 7-1 Lady Torreys is Campbell County from Gillette, Wyoming at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Several local scholastic girls basketball teams notched wins over the past week of play.At La Jolla High, the Lady Vikings came into play this week at 2-0, following wins over Mar Vista (42-36, Olivia Waldon 22 points) and Monte Vista (36-26, Waldon 18 points, Stephanie Guillou 7 points).According to head coach Ty Eveleth, Rachel Pedowitz […]<\/p>","protected":false},"author":726,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_seopress_robots_primary_cat":"","_seopress_titles_title":"Waldon leads La Jolla cagers to wins; Bishop's rolls","_seopress_titles_desc":"","_seopress_robots_index":"","jnews-multi-image_gallery":[],"jnews_single_post":[],"jnews_primary_category":[],"jnews_social_meta":[],"jnews_override_counter":[],"footnotes":""},"categories":[11600],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-296505","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-sdnews"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/296505","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/726"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=296505"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/296505\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=296505"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=296505"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=296505"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
