Assemblywoman to host party, canned food drive State Assemblywoman Lori Salda\u00f1a will host a fifth annual holiday party on Thursday, Dec. 3 to launch a canned food drive to benefit needy families. The event is designed to assist struggling San Diego families and will also include an opportunity to meet with Sanda\u00f1a on past, current or future legislative issues of interest. The event takes place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Military Housing Recreation Center, 1895 Tattnal Way at Liberty Station. Participants are asked to bring canned goods or any non-perishable food items to help a family in need. Light hors d\u2019oeuvres and refreshments will be served. Fundraiser set for PLHS history awards event Point Loma High School will launch an effort Nov. 28 to generate funding for the school\u2019s fifth annual History Awards Banquet at the Bali Hai restaurant on Shelter Island. School officials are encouraging residents and students to purchase books between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. at Bookstar, 3150 Rosecrans Place, to help fund the end-of-year ceremony rewarding excellence in the academic field of history for about 200 students in grades 9 through 12 at Point Loma High.\u00a0 Each student who attends the awards banquet will receive a Cross pen, a certificate of achievement and some will receive monetary scholarships.\u00a0 For more information, e-mail Patrick McElhaney with the school\u2019s Social Studies Department at pmcelhaney@sandi.net. Schroeder inducted into musical \u2018Wall of Fame\u2019 Dell Schroeder, a local music teacher and Peninsula resident who heads the popular Band at the Beach program, has been inducted as a member of the College of Music\u2019s “Wall of Fame,” \u00a0sponsored by Florida State University (FSU) Band Alumni. The induction took place during Homecoming festivities in Tallhassee, Fla. on Oct. 30 and 31.\u00a0 The award is based on accomplishments in the field of music education as well as participation in FSU Band Alumni activities, that include her serving on the FSU Band Alumni Board of Directors.\u00a0 Schroeder has long been an advocate of music education in school curriculum, and is a supporter of Community Council for Music in Our Schools.\u00a0 Her music camp, Band at the Beach \u2014 a program founded 21 years ago \u2014 works in direct support of instrumental music programs at Dana Middle School, Correia Middle School and Point Loma High School (PLHS).\u00a0 Schroeder has been honored by PLHS Band Boosters at “Rhapsody on the Point” and has received two\u00a0 PTA Honorary Service Awards for her volunteer work in the schools.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
