Bishop’s girls lacrosse scores big win
The Bishop’s School girls lacrosse team went overtime to post a big 8-7 win over Francis Parker last weekend.
Bishop’s Emily Reit led the way with five goals, with Riley Sexton (two) and Nicole Ballon-Landa adding one.
Haley Geier had two assists, while Felicity Bradley had four saves in goal.
“We knew coming into this game it would be a challenge, and Parker as usual came on strong, as they are a well-coached team and performed consistently with their high level of play,” Bishop’s head coach Meghan Carr noted. “Without a doubt, this has been considered the biggest game of our season. Jameson Kearney, Chelsea Allen, Ali Bishop, Lia Sagerman, Camilla Johnston and Daryl Griglak banded together and led our defense.
“Controlling the ball off the draw is key in any game, and on this occasion, Jacqueline Rhodes and Nicole Ballon-Landa, who shared the center position, came up triumphant time after time.”<\/p>\n
La Jolla girls track scores at finals
The La Jolla High girls track team had a number of highlights at last weekend’s Western League Finals.
Among the top performances was that of the 4×400 relay team of Nihal Kayali, Courtney Avvampato, Christie Richmond and Tess Plant-Thomas, who broke the school record with a time of 4:06.10. Because they are all sophomores, they also broke the sophomore record.
Plant-Thomas also won the 800 in a season best of 2:23.19. In the 1600, Avvampato placed second with a personal record of 5:13.36, while Kayali was third at 5:15.93. Ashley Fu won the long jump at 16’5.25″, while Dana Hoolko won the pole vault for the fourth year in a row by vaulting 11’3″.
Overall, La Jolla qualified 17 athletes in 11 events for the CIF Prelims this Saturday, May 19.<\/p>\n
Breitbard prep, amateur honorees named
A pair of area women were recently selected by the Hall of Champions as Breitbard Stars of the Month for March 2007.
La Jolla Country Day School basketball player Dominique Conners was named a Prep Star as her steady leadership helped the Lady Torreys into the Southern California Regional Championships. Although LJCD was beaten by eventual champion Marlborough, Conners racked up a team-high 19 points.
On the amateur level, University of California, San Diego (UCSD) product Hillary Hansen, a senior forward, helped the Lady Tritons to their first NCAA Division II Final Four.
Hansen was also awarded the Charles T. Stoner Law Scholarship by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
