{"id":295867,"date":"2011-02-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-23T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/country-day-falls-to-francis-parker\/"},"modified":"2011-02-23T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2011-02-23T08:00:00","slug":"country-day-falls-to-francis-parker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/country-day-falls-to-francis-parker\/","title":{"rendered":"Country Day falls to Francis Parker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Six-foot-five-inch junior Frankie Bamford scored 14 points, but it wasn\u2019t enough as the La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) Torreys suffered a tough 55-53 loss to the eighth-ranked Francis Parker Lancers in a boys Coastal League basketball game played at LJCD on Feb. 18. &#8220;Lately, we\u2019ve been coming out kind of flat,&#8221; said Country Day\u00a0coach Ryan Meier.\u00a0\u00a0&#8220;We were like that again tonight.&#8221; Despite not being at full strength,\u00a0the Torreys (15-11 overall, 5-5 in the Coastal League) still jumped out to a quick 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter behind the play of Bamford,\u00a0six-foot-three-inch senior Ryan Watt, 6-foot-2-inch senior Alex Perez and 5-foot-10-inch senior Jake Hershfield. &#8220;We\u00a0didn\u2019t have any energy this evening,&#8221; said Meier. &#8220;No energy at all.&#8221; \u00a0In its defense, Country Day did muster up enough energy to\u00a0go on a 9-4\u00a0run to close out the second quarter, knotting the contest up 27-27 at halftime.\u00a0 Seven of the nine LJCD points came on free throws from the charity stripe by 6-foot-6-inch sophomore Ziad Damanhoury, 5-foot-five-inch senior Max Hershfield and 6-foot sophomore Sage Burmeister.\u00a0 After the intermission, Francis Parker (19-7 overall, 9-1 in Coastal League play) outscored the Torreys 17-11 to open up a 44-38 advantage at the end of the third quarter. Down by two points in the final seconds of the fourth quarter, Country Day had a chance to tie it up, but a jump shot by Bamford didn\u2019t fall, sealing the victory for the Lancers.
