Also honored was its director, Danny Boyle, as Best Director. &#8220;\u2018Slumdog\u2019 is an inspiring film of hope,&#8221; said James Colt Harrison, one of the founding members of the critics society. &#8220;Boyle captures the hopes and dreams of a young Indian boy who manages to use his knowledge to make his way out of the slums of Mumbai.&#8221; The Best Actress was Kate Winslett for her role as a German prison guard who has an affair with a young man (David Kross) in &#8220;The Reader.&#8221; Making the comeback of the decade is Mickey Rourke. He was selected for Best Actor in &#8220;The Wrestler.&#8221; One-time Oscar winner Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinney&#8221;) was selected once again as Best Supporting Actress for her role as a stripper who befriends Rourke in &#8220;The Wrestler.&#8221; As was expected, the late Heath Ledger was picked as Best Supporting Actor for his startling portrayal of TheJoker in &#8220;The Dark Knight.&#8221; Best Original Screenplay went to Tom McCarthy for &#8220;The Visitor&#8221; and Simon Beaufoy was honored for Best Adapted Screenplay for &#8220;Slumdog Millionaire.&#8221; The art of cinematography was easily won by Anthony Dod Mantle for his work at capturing India in &#8220;Slumdog Millionaire.&#8221; Graham Burt was selected for Best Production Design on Brad Pitt\u2019s &#8220;The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.&#8221; Music plays an important part in a film, and A.R. Rahman won for his work on &#8220;Slumdog.&#8221; Another &#8220;Slumdog&#8221; winner was Chris Dickens for his editing. The Best Ensemble Performance went to the cast of &#8220;Frost\/Nixon.&#8221; Veteran actor Richard Jenkins was selected for Best Body of Work for his parts in &#8220;The Visitor,&#8221; &#8220;Burn After Reading,&#8221; &#8220;Step Brothers&#8221; and &#8220;The Tale of Desperaux.&#8221; Runners-up were Angelina Jolie as Best Actress for &#8220;The Changeling,&#8221; Frank Langella in &#8220;Frost\/ Nixon&#8221; as Best Actor, Taraji Henson in the Best Supporting Actress category for &#8220;Benjamin Button&#8221; and young Dev Patel in &#8220;Slumdog Millionaire&#8221; in the Best Supporting Actor group.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The San Diego Film Critics Society has selected &#8220;Slumdog Millionaire&#8221; as Best Film of 2008.
