{"id":294918,"date":"2007-05-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-05-10T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/balancing-act-museum-drops-cost-of-admission-to-dead-sea-scrolls\/"},"modified":"2007-05-10T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2007-05-10T07:00:00","slug":"balancing-act-museum-drops-cost-of-admission-to-dead-sea-scrolls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/balancing-act-museum-drops-cost-of-admission-to-dead-sea-scrolls\/","title":{"rendered":"Balancing act: Museum drops cost of admission to &#8216;Dead Sea Scrolls&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The San Diego Natural History Museum has reduced general admission prices from $11 to $9 for adults in anticipation of the arrival of the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit, which begins late June, to make up for the special exhibition&#8217;s separate ticket price. <br \/>Visitors paying general admission have the unique opportunity to tour prehistoric Southern California, Baja California and Mexico through &#8220;Fossil Mysteries,&#8221; the museum&#8217;s $8 million permanent exhibition. <br \/>In addition, visitors can see, touch and study live plants, animals and other elements of nature in the museum&#8217;s discovery room. <br \/>Also included in the general admission is access to the Ordover Gallery, which will include displays of nature photography as well as admission to the museum&#8217;s giant-screen theater. <br \/>Beginning June 29, the museum will also display &#8220;The Dead Sea Scrolls,&#8221; a traveling exhibit promising a large and comprehensive assemblage of ancient and biblical artifacts. According to marketing coordinator Hallie Shere, the museum expects over 400,000 visitors during the six-month-long exhibit. <br \/>&#8220;This will be the blockbuster exhibition of the year,&#8221; Shere said. &#8220;A once-in-a-life-time opportunity.&#8221; <br \/>While general admissions tickets will not give visitors access to the special exhibition, tickets to &#8220;The Dead Sea Scrolls&#8221; will include admission to the rest of the museum. <br \/>The special exhibit will include the photography of Neil Folberg and Duby Tal, whose works are also featured in the museum&#8217;s exhibition of contemporary Israeli photography in the Ordover Gallery. <br \/>The Natural History Museum will close to the public from Tuesday, June 26 through Thursday, June 28 during the installation of The Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit. <br \/>General admission prices will lower to $9 for adults, $7 for adults, $6 for the military, students and youth ages 13 to 17, $4 for children ages 3 to 12 and free for members. <br \/>The general admissions price change is projected to run until June of 2008, through next year&#8217;s special exhibition &#8220;Pompeii.&#8221;<br \/>For information call (619) 232 3821 or visit www.sdnhm.org.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The San Diego Natural History Museum has reduced general admission prices from $11 to $9 for adults in anticipation of the arrival of the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit, which begins late June, to make up for the special exhibition&#8217;s separate ticket price.
