The ceremony will begin with light refreshments on the Kelley Family Field, followed by a ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m. and a new building dedication and installation of Head of School Brian Oliphant at 5:45. The event will conclude with a campus tour at 6:15. The $5 million campus, which took a year to build, will be called Nelson Middle Years (NMY) and will accommodate students in grades five through eight, Oliphant said. &#8220;The school has historically been pre-kindergarten through sixth grade,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We\u2019ve added a seventh and eighth grade and will be transferring fifth- and sixth-graders to the new campus as well.&#8221; Some of the new building\u2019s amenities include a new art lab, a science lab and a music center. &#8220;Everything is very current and technology-centered,&#8221; Oliphant said. Oliphant joins the faculty after working for the Harbor Day School in Newport Beach. He said he is excited to promote the school\u2019s mission of providing a comprehensive &#8220;child-centered education.&#8221; &#8220;We have a great social education curriculum and we really focus on all aspects of children\u2019s development, from social and emotional to academic and artistic,&#8221; Oliphant said. &#8220;It\u2019s a really well-rounded program.&#8221; The Children\u2019s School welcomes about 250 students this year, with classes starting Sept. 7. Instruction time begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. &#8220;It\u2019s a really exciting time in the school\u2019s history,&#8221; Oliphant said. &#8220;Enrollment is the highest it\u2019s ever been and we have an incredibly dedicated faculty. We\u2019re really looking forward to the opening.&#8221; Tuition for The Children\u2019s School is $17,000 per year for all ages and grade levels.
