The theft of $3,000 worth of guitars and accessories overnight from a Point Loma High School arts facility has left two young, dedicated musicians saddened and disappointed. Eddy Allen and Shawn Gardner were rehearsing the evening of Feb. 21 with the school Jazz Band for an upcoming performance in the campus\u2019 Larry Zeiger Performing Arts Center. At the conclusion of the session, the boys were told by a staff member they could leave their equipment overnight. The next morning, however, the instruments were gone, leaving Allen and Gardner wondering how their property could have been taken from the apparently locked facility. Allen is the lead singer in two bands \u2014 Revoltage, and 140 Yards \u2014 and Gardner is a bassist for the groups. The young musicians said they just want their instruments back. “These guitars were special to us. As artists, that\u2019s how we speak,” Allen said. “The Stratocaster was\u00a0my\u00a0guitar. It was the one I felt I could express myself on. Shawn and I are both disappointed that someone would take things with such sentimental value.” A drum kit belonging to Allen\u2019s brother, Alex, was left behind, as were the amplifiers. Taken were: \u2022 Allen\u2019s custom Fender American Stratocaster with case \u2022 Allen\u2019s John Lennon edition Epiphone Casino with Bigsby bender and case \u2022 Gardner\u2019s 1991 custom Fender Precision bass guitar and \u2022 Boss DS-1, Boss OD-3 and Boss ME-50 special-effects pedals, a GK bass head (bass amplifier control) along with a capo and various cables San Diego Unified School District police are investigating the thefts.
