A man who fired gunshots during a SWAT stand-off in the Sunset Cliffs area has been sentenced to one year in jail.
\nJohn Michael Dorfi, 39, pleaded guilty to resisting an executive officer on Sept. 28, 2018, and admitted he personally used a firearm against a police officer.
\nDorfi will be released from the George Bailey Detention Facility on July 7, according to the sheriff\u2019s department.
\nThe incident took place shortly at 12:20 a.m. in the 1000 block of Devonshire Drive between Guizot and Hill Streets after a neighbor called police about hearing glass breaking and a woman screaming.
\nA woman came from the house and said there were two men inside who were drinking alcohol and had access to firearms. The shots only occurred after police officers arrived.
\nA SWAT standoff occurred and officers closed the street. The shots came from the house into the air, but one officer said bullets were fired over his head.
\nAfter 1 \u00bd hours passed, two men came outside with their hands up at 2 a.m. and surrendered. Dorfi and another man were arrested. The other man was released as he did not fire any shots and was not charged. Police seized three guns in the house.
\nSan Diego Superior Court Judge Polly Shamoon placed Dorfi on three years probation and ordered him to abstain from alcohol. He is banned from possessing firearms.
\nDorfi was fined $1,344 and order to pay $1,433 in probation costs at the amount of $35 per month 60 days after his release.
\nCharges of making a threat to police and discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent were dismissed after he pleaded guilty to resisting an executive officer as a felony.
