For the first time ever, Ocean Beach breweries have come together to create a unique collaboration brew to celebrate Oktoberfest: OB Session.\u00a0
\nThe beer will only be poured at the OB Brewfest on Saturday, Oct. 13\u00a0 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
\nAn India Pale Ale (IPA), OB Session is another first for OB\u2019s burgeoning craft-brewing industry. The beach community now boasts several different breweries-tasting rooms \u2014 and counting \u2014 including Kilowatt, Culture, OB Brewery, Helm\u2019s, Mike Hess and Belching Beaver.
\nThe brew crew was spearheaded by Kilowatt Brewing brewmaster, Brian Crecely, who is credited with devising the original recipe for OB Session.
\n“It came out really nice, said Steve Kozyk of Kilowatt Brewing, who characterized the flavor of the new beer as “a lower-alcohol content IPA with a lot of hops flavor and aroma.”
\nOf the birth of the new beer, Kozyk said, “The Ocean Beach MainStreet Association got a hold of all the craft breweries and we decided it would be a good idea, because OB is such a brewery-centric community, to get involved in the annual Oktoberfest.”
\nCozy added OB Session “came together very rapidly,” noting “everybody bought into it” adding all the craft breweries “had input on the recipe.”
\nOB Session was brewed at Kilowatt. “It will be on tap at the Oktoberfest,” Kozyk said. “The rest of the breweries are buying a number of kegs from me.”
\nIs the collaborative OB Oktoberfest a one-time deal?
\n“We\u2019re hoping to do it again next year,” said Kozyk adding the collaborative brew is just one more example of how OB has become a “craft beer destination neighborhood. We\u2019re really a top craft-brew neighborhood, not just quantity, but quality. We\u2019re really working to make beer better for everyone.
