Old Town San Diego\u2019s Founder\u2019s Day is an opportunity to recognize and reflect on those who were living and contributing to the region before San Diego was established. The Kumeyaay people, who first inhabited the area, respected the land, rivers and ocean that brought them food, water and livelihood.
\nThe community is grateful to them for being such a significant part of San Diego\u2019s history, and for their perseverance to exist under turbulent times and circumstances. Founders\u2019 Day also recognizes all of the people who, over the years, have contributed to San Diego\u2019s unique qualities, cultures and traditions.
\nSan Diego is a tapestry of many people and many dreams. Founders\u2019 Day honors those who dared to dream and contributed to making San Diego unique and admired for its diversity and many historical accomplishments.
\n1769 marks the year the first settlement of Alta California was established, which included a mission and presidio. The City of San Diego and Old Town Chamber of Commerce, along with other community organizations, will hold the Founders\u2019 Day Festival to commemorate the birth of San Diego from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 14-15 at Old Town San Diego.
\nThe festival is free and open to the public. Families are encouraged to participate in the many scheduled activities during the two-day festival and to learn more about the history of Old Town San Diego. The festival will include historic games, entertainment, displays and activities for people of all ages.
