It\u2019s time again to head to Old Town San Diego State Historic Park to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. This year, the annual festivities commence at 11 a.m. with the ringing of the bell at the historic Casa de Estudillo on Saturday, Sept. 14.\u00a0
\nThis free event commemorates an important day in early San Diego history when Mexico declared independence from Spain on Sept. 16, 1821, and Alta California became part of that new nation.
\nOur exciting and colorful Fiestas Patrias festivities will be showcasing a variety of entertainment, including historic and traditional music and dance groups, crafts, games, and informational demonstrations that represent the activities enjoyed by the early settlers of San Diego in the 1800s.
\nPark guests can relax and picnic in the grassy area in front of the stage that will be filled with musical entertainment and will also include a pi\u00f1ata breaking for children to participate in during the event.
\nOld Town San Diego State Historic Park, with the support of the Boosters of Old Town, Wells Fargo, and Fiesta de Reyes, is proud to support these free activities for visitors of all ages. The park is on San Diego Avenue and Twiggs Street and is located next to the Old Town Transit Center, with Coaster, Trolley, and MTS bus service. Free parking is available at the CalTrans headquarters, just two blocks from the park at 2994 Sunset St.
