A man pleaded guilty on May 3 to sexual assault of a Pacific Beach woman and to residential hot prowl burglary.
\nDeputy District Attorney Jessica Coto said Jeffrey Dean Hanze, 56, faces a sentence of 23 years and eight months in state prison.
\nHanze admitted to entering through an open window in an apartment on Chalcedony Street not far from Ingraham Street at 1:45 a.m. on Oct. 1, 2018 in Pacific Beach.
\nSan Diego Superior Court Judge Polly Shamoon set sentencing for June 3. Hanze remains in jail without bail.
\nCoto said Hanze could get 16 years for the sexual assault by itself and more time behind bars for the residential burglary. She said Hanze also could get a consecutive five-year term for having a felony conviction another hot prowl residential burglary.
\nHanze pleaded guilty to digital penetration of an unconscious person and residential burglary. The woman was asleep at the start of the sexual assault. A charge of assault with intent to commit rape was dropped.
\nHanze will have to register as a sex offender in whatever community he lives in after he is paroled, said Coto. He pleaded guilty without having a preliminary hearing, so the victim did not have to testify in open court. The preliminary hearing had been set for May 30.
\nHanze was arrested in late Oct. on a $500,000 warrant by sheriff\u2019s deputies in Los Angeles County and has been in jail since then.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
