San Diego County\u2019s Waterfront Park will host its first major sports viewing event 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 5 with a live showing of the U.S. women’s national team competing in the Women\u2019s World Cup soccer championship match.
\nThe U.S. will face Japan in a rematch of the final four years ago, which Japan won.
\nThe game will be telecast on a giant 20-by 27-foot high-definition screen designed for daytime viewing. Just one day after the Fourth of July, sports fans are invited to show their patriotic spirit and cheer on the American women as they play in the Cup\u2019s final in Vancouver.
\nThis free, family-friendly event starts at 4 p.m. at the county\u2019s downtown park at 1600 Pacific Highway, but sports fans can stake out their spot early. They can make a day of it and bring picnics, blankets, suntan lotion and of course, their team spirit.
\nFood trucks will be on hand and the concession stand will also be open. No alcohol will be allowed at this event and all other usual Waterfront Park rules will apply. The fountains will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
