The corner at Prospect Street and Torrey Pines Road can sneak up on you, and some of its angles mark a pretty tight turn — but if the folks at the La Jolla Art & Wine Festival scouted it out as an anchor space for its annual event, who are we to argue?
\nLike the five before it, this year’s festival — set for Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 11 and 12 — will include favorite installments such as a wine and beer garden, a family art area, a silent auction and, of course, works by more than 200 juried artists. Last year’s silent auction raised $26,000 to support underfunded programs at four cluster schools, including art, music, science, physical education, technology and on-site medical care. Meanwhile, attendance is expected to exceed the 4,500 mark from last year as residents from California, Arizona and northern Baja sought silent-auction fare such as dining certificates, hotel stays and beauty treatments. This year, they have two auctions (one each day) at which to try their luck — meanwhile, the varied and plentiful artwork awaits, as do La Jolla’s classic vistas and friendly people.
