San Diego Humane Society received 93 dogs at Gillespie Field on Oct. 18. In a collaborative effort with the Humane Society of the United States, the flight carried pets who were transferred from St. Joseph Bay Humane Society, the\u00a0Escambia\u00a0County\u00a0Animal Shelter and the Humane Society of Bay County to create space for animals in Florida who have been displaced by Hurricane Michael.
\nAfter their arrival, the crated dogs were transferred directly to San Diego Humane Society\u2019s San Diego Campus, where a professional team of staff and veterinarians assessed the pets\u2019 health and level of stress and determined when they will be available for adoption.\u00a0
\nThe incoming pets are not direct victims of Hurricane Michael. They are adoptable dogs who have been in animal shelters in the Florida panhandle area. They were transported to San Diego to create room for pets who have been lost, strayed or abandoned due to the hurricane. These pets do not have owners who will be searching for them when the conditions improve.
\nSome of the pets will be transferred to animal shelters and rescue organizations across California, including Sacramento SPCA, Santa Barbara Humane Society, Rancho Cucamonga Animal Services, Redland Animal Control and Placer SPCA.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
