A Point Loma woman has pleaded guilty to felony assault when she shattered a glass bong on an acquaintance.
\nLayla Maria Lugo, 25, pleaded guilty April 8 before San Diego Superior Court Judge Laura Halgen, who set sentencing for May 7.
\nDeputy District Attorney Allen Brown said April 11 the victim suffered serious injuries when the drug device broke apart on the man\u2019s body in the Feb. 8 incident at a private residence.
\nThe 30-year-old man was taken to UCSD Medical Center for treatment, said Brown.
\nBrown said Lugo faces up to a year in jail and she is expected to receive three years probation. If she violates terms of probation, she could end up doing three years in state prison, he added.
\nLugo pleaded guilty to felony assault and a second charge of assault with deadly weapon that inflicted great bodily injury was dropped, said Brown.
\nThe incident took place at a house near Liberty Station and two blocks from Rosecrans Street. Lugo fled after the 2:20 p.m. incident, but police arrested her a few blocks away.
\nAs an inmate awaiting sentencing, her $30,000 bail was changed to no bail and Lugo remains in the Las Colinas Women\u2019s Detention Facility.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
