{"id":290461,"date":"2016-03-04T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-03-04T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/bruce-lightner-to-run-for-wifes-council-seat-2\/"},"modified":"2016-03-04T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-03-04T08:00:00","slug":"bruce-lightner-to-run-for-wifes-council-seat-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/bruce-lightner-to-run-for-wifes-council-seat-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Bruce Lightner to run for wife&#8217;s council seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bruce Lightner, husband of San Diego City Council President Sherri Lightner, announced March 3 that he will run for his wife&#8217;s seat, in which she&#8217;s being termed out.<br \/>\nLike his wife, Lightner is an engineer and longtime La Jolla resident.<br \/>\n&#8220;Although I had never considered running for public office before, I&#8217;ve decided to throw my hat in the ring because I feel so strongly about continuing Sherri&#8217;s work as an independent, effective voice for our neighborhoods,&#8221; Lightner said in a statement emailed to supporters.<br \/>\nLightner will run against entrepreneurs Barbara Bry and Ray Ellis for the District 1 seat, which represents Carmel Valley, La Jolla, Bird Rock and University City. The primary election is June 7.<br \/>\nSherri, a Democrat, was elected to the district in 2008 and 2012.
