Hailing from Beijing, Zhi Gang\u2019s work brings to life Shanghai in the 1930s with depictions of Shanghai women in qipao (a body-hugging dress also known as cheongsam or mandarin gown) in soft, ethereal oil paintings. Zhi Gang\u2019s visit stateside follows that of fellow Chinese artist Liu Zhonghua on March 3. Starting at the beginning of March and running through August, Colosseum will showcase five different Chinese artists, an artistic feat the gallery\u2019s owners are calling &#8220;phenomenal.&#8221; &#8220;There are galleries in China that have been trying to get this art for years, so we\u2019re very lucky to have this coming,&#8221;?said Colosseum president Floyd Elmore. &#8220;There are a lot of artists looking for Western exposure, and they love our venue and love La Jolla.
