{"id":290288,"date":"2017-10-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-10-17T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/vehicle-topples-iconic-loma-portal-streetlight\/"},"modified":"2017-10-17T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-10-17T07:00:00","slug":"vehicle-topples-iconic-loma-portal-streetlight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/vehicle-topples-iconic-loma-portal-streetlight\/","title":{"rendered":"Vehicle topples iconic Loma Portal streetlight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An elderly driver sustained only minor injuries when he drove his car into one of the decorative, iconic streetlights in Loma Portal last week.<br \/>\nThe male driver, alone in the car, sustained only minor injuries in the crash.<br \/>\nThe collision left the streetlight completely destroyed, the granite pole lying bent on the street while the\u00a0rounded globe rested near a curb.<br \/>\nThe Loma Portal area of Point Loma is characterized by the stately streetlights that were installed decades\u00a0ago in the middle of each intersection.\u00a0And many of them have been toppled by misguided cars over the years.<br \/>\nLast Thursday, one of those cars, a Toyota Prius, slammed directly\u00a0into the light at the intersection of Locust and Dumas streets.<br \/>\nResponding San Diego Fire-Rescue firefighters and paramedics assisted the man from his car and he was transported to a local hospital.<br \/>\nOver the years, residents have decorated the poles for Christmas and other holidays. Others have used the streetlight poles to post signs asking motorists to slow down in the area.<br \/>\nCity workers will be replacing the unique streetlight soon.
