PLHS graduate wins scholarship honor<\/b> Point Loma High School graduate Samantha Briers has won first-place honors in the National Woodie Club Scholarship Fund. The scholarship was open to all graduating high school seniors who plan to attend any community college, university or trade school in the fall, and who are children or grandchildren of current members of the club. The contest rules called for a 300- to 500-word essay on one of 19 topics. Briers chose to write from the topic of “The car\u2019s view of life.” Briers\u2019 family has been restoring a 1950 Woodie wagon for the last four years \u2014 an effort that is said to be nearly complete. For her efforts, Briers won a $1,500 scholarship to offset expenses as she heads off to college at the University of Hawaii. According to Briers\u2019 mother, Kelly, Samantha learned of the honor at the baggage-claim area the day Samantha flew into Honolulu to begin her college career.
