Second-graders at La Jolla Elementary School took hammers in hand March 11 with guidance from Home Depot staff to build and paint their own “green” planters. The planters are part of the company\u2019s outreach community program, which teaches safety and self-reliance with tools to a generation that has less access to backyard building projects amid today’s surging technology.
\n“We welcome Home Depot to our school, school principal Donna Tripi sad. “Their staff provides a valuable service for students who learn the importance of ecology in the classroom and now have the opportunity to gain new skills that promote green thinking.”
\nStudents of Stephanie Kaplan\u2019s class donned orange aprons as they constructed the planters from kits and a stylized cutout in the shape of a flower. They then decorated the planters with an environmental theme that reflects their respect for the environment.
\nThe planters will be gifts for parents as part of the school\u2019s upcoming spring gala fundraiser, to be held Saturday, May 9.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
