Pacific Beach\u2019s business improvement district has set up a GoFundMe page to help encourage people to more easily donate online in an effort to raise $18,000 needed to stage the annual Pacific Beach Holiday Parade set for Saturday, Dec. 12 starting at 1 p.m.
\n“We will be doing Christmas on Crystal Pier the\u00a0weekend\u00a0before on\u00a0Dec.\u00a05,” noted Ann Condon, speaking on behalf of Discover PB.
\nA fundraiser for the holiday parade event was held Oct. 17 at Woodstock\u2019s Pizza at 1221 Garnet Ave., which hosted live music, a raffle and prizes from 7 to 9 p.m. Woodstock\u2019s donated 25 percent of that day\u2019s proceeds to the Dec. 12 holiday event, the theme for which this year is “A Beachin\u2019 Holiday.”
\nDiscover PB business improvement district is suggesting $20 in donations to assist with parade\/judging costs for the event. Checks should be made payable to: Discover Pacific Beach, and be mailed to Discover PB, 1503 Garnet Ave., San Diego, CA, 92109. Email or scan all signed and completed entry forms or questions to ann@pacificbeach.org.
\nPacific Beach Holiday Parade festivities begin at 1 p.m. with a spirited procession of colorful floats, classic cars and the vibrant sounds of the Pacific Beach Middle and Mission Bay High school bands marching west down six blocks of Garnet Avenue from Haines to Cass streets. Spectators are encouraged to line the streets before the parade begins to get the best vantage point of the lively event, then stick around to enjoy the many amenities the beachside community has to offer.
\nThe Pacific Beach Holiday Parade was first established in 1977. Despite the community\u2019s fondness for the annual holiday parade, the longstanding Pacific Beach tradition has experienced a couple of setbacks over the years, such as its cancellation in 2009, revival in 2010 and cancellation again in 2011 because of a lack of funding.
