This weekend, locals will splash paint all over Pacific Beach in a positive way. The third annual Pacific Beach Clean Up Graffiti Day will be held Saturday, April 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. “When your community is free of graffiti, you can be more comfortable in it,” said Jim Menders, one of the event\u2019s organizers. Menders said he hopes that about 150 people will take part in Clean Up Graffiti Day. In addition to the general public, Urban Corps will have 30 people at the event and PB Presbyterian Church will also dispatch work parties. “This is your community and this is your chance to help make it a beautiful community and a beautiful place to live,” Menders said. Local hardware stores have donated all the necessary supplies for the cleanup event that was started three years ago by local community activist Jerry Hall. Volunteers won\u2019t need to bring supplies and also don\u2019t need experience in painting or graffiti removal to be a part of Clean Up Graffiti Day. “There\u2019s an orientation, and after the orientation we\u2019ll be using a graffiti remover spray right in the alley to demonstrate how to remove graffiti,” Menders said. “Most of the graffiti that\u2019s around is as easy as cleaning up a spot on your wall with the spray.” The event\u2019s organizers have held meetings for the last two months. At their most recent meeting April 8, organizers determined that one of the priorities was to identify graffiti hotspots in PB \u2014 including the alleyways south and north of Garnet Avenue and parts of Lamont Street. “There are all kinds of trash bins back there covered with graffiti, street signs are covered with graffiti, telephone poles are covered with graffiti, along with utility boxes and some walls,” Menders said about the alley between Garnet Avenue and Felspar Street. Although not necessary, volunteers are encouraged to register online at www.bit.ly\/pbgraffiti. The event will start at 9 a.m. at PB Presbyterian Church, 1675 Garnet Ave. “People have to sign some waivers and be informed of a few things,” Menders said. “It\u2019s just a time-saving device.
