One of the most gifted singer-songwriters in San Diego, Christopher Dale has been a mainstay of the area\u2019s music scene for the last 15 years \u2014 first with his band Grays Well, then as solo performer Scorch, and now under his own name. Appearing at Tio Leo\u2019s on Sept. 16, Dale and his group play a mix of heartfelt originals like “Waitress” and “Hilary,” alternating with a list of cover material that ranges from Ozzy Osbourne to The Police. While both are solid sets of performers, the nod goes to Wild Mountain Honey, a much-less-covered act with a much larger, if slightly less-famed repertoire. Formed in 2008, the band released its first album, “When the Screws Came Loose” in 2010, but live is where the quartet really shines. Intransit Audio\u2019s tunes are a mix of jazz, rock, hip-hop, electronica and whatever else can be shoehorned into a recording. For example, the largely instrumental “Bigfoot” manages to include elements akin to 1970s-era Italian suspense-film soundtracks. The group generates a whirlwind of sounds, taking in Middle Eastern beats, folk, rock and even a little funk for a unique take on world music. Performing locally for more than a decade, Sarram is classically trained and has two albums to his credit, but it\u2019s the live interplay between him and his musicians that makes the music even better than the sum of its parts. Featuring an all-star backing group that includes guitarist Reverend Stickman, bassist David Ybarra and drummer Kevin Dooley, Bahman Sarram\u2019s instrumental music is at once exotic, rhythmic and melodic. \u2022 BViolin and Gypsy Knights<\/b> perform at 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 at Caf\u00e9-Bar Europa,<\/b> 873 Turqouise St. 21 and up. With a full horn section, the band eschews straight reggae for a spirited take on ska, along the lines of Madness or Bad Manners.
