{"id":280936,"date":"2020-02-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-02-17T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/after-30-years-taco-surf-in-pacific-beach-changes-hands\/"},"modified":"2020-02-17T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-02-17T08:00:00","slug":"after-30-years-taco-surf-in-pacific-beach-changes-hands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/after-30-years-taco-surf-in-pacific-beach-changes-hands\/","title":{"rendered":"After 30 years, Taco Surf in Pacific Beach changes hands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Owned by Sam and Cindy McLarty for 30 years, Taco Surf at 4567 Mission Blvd. in Pacific Beach has been sold by them to new owners Matt and Melanie Gilmore.<br \/>\n&#8220;The opportunity arose and we jumped on it,&#8221; said Cindy McLarty of the sale of their Mexican restaurant to their friends the Gilmores. &#8220;Sam has known Matt, who has been general manager for a number of residents in PB, for 25 years.&#8221;<br \/>\nMcLarty said the Gilmores have already assumed control of the restaurant, but added, &#8220;It hasn\u2019t closed escrow yet, just one more hurdle to overcome, hopefully by the end of this month.&#8221;<br \/>\nCindy said her husband Sam &#8220;wanted somebody that he trusted that everybody would love.&#8221;<br \/>\nThat turned out to be the Gilmores.<br \/>\nMelanie Gilmore said she and husband Matt have been patrons of Taco Surf since their children were toddlers. She added, &#8220;This is a true honor, a dream come true.&#8221;<br \/>\nOf the sale, Melanie said, &#8220;Sam asked Matt to buy Taco Surf once he found out Matt was looking for a quick-serving food business to purchase. We did not go in and say, \u2018We want to buy this.\u2019&#8221;<br \/>\nMelanie noted Matt was the original general manager of PB Bar &#038; Grill. Matt was also employed previously at Hennessy\u2019s in PB (now Duck Dive).<br \/>\n&#8220;Sam genuinely wanted somebody he cared about (Matt) that he knew would do a good job and that people would love,&#8221; said Melanie, who added no wholesale changes are planned for the restaurant.<br \/>\n&#8220;We want to keep the history of Taco Surf alive,&#8221; she said. &#8220;It\u2019s all about what Sam has built. The only changes we might be making are painting and organizing.&#8221;<br \/>\nCindy McLarty said the cooks and employees at Taco Surf will remain unchanged with the new ownership.\u00a0<br \/>\nThe McLartys owned the eatery since 1989. A lifelong surfer, some of Sam\u2019s surfboard collection has been a mainstay of Taco Surf\u2019s decor.
