What is i-Ready?<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>This is the second year that Tubman has utilized i-Ready schoolwide. i-Ready is an<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

online program for reading and\/or mathematics that will help your child\u2019s teacher(s) determine your child\u2019s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows your teacher(s) to meet your child exactly where they are and provides data to increase your child\u2019s learning gains. i-Ready consists of two parts: diagnostic and instruction.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child\u2019s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

i-Ready Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual skill level and needs, so your child can learn at a pace that is just right for them. These lessons are fun and interactive to keep your child engaged as they learn.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

How are Tubman Student Leaders doing?<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>Based on our January diagnostic, Tubman students are showing a lot of growth in both reading and math since September. The mathematics and reading graphics show how students have progressed through the year.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For reference, Tier 1 students are considered at or above grade level, Tier 2 students are approximately one grade level below standards, and Tier 3 students are two or more grade levels below standards. Based on the graphics, you can see that Tier 2 levels in both reading and math have stayed fairly consistent, but Tier 1 has grown substantially, and the percent of students who are considered two or more grade levels below has shrunk significantly (especially in math!). The trends we are seeing this year are very similar to what our students accomplished last year on i-Ready, which translated into 1.6% growth in ELA and 4.4% growth in math on the 2019 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) assessment, exceeding the state, county, and San Diego Unified growth rates.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

How can you support your Student Leader?<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>Speak with your child about how using i-Ready will help them prepare for class work. Also explain that i-Ready will show teachers where your child is excelling and which topics need some more review.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Encourage your child to take each lesson and quiz question seriously. Emphasize “thinking before clicking,” because just clicking through will not give teachers an accurate report of what your child knows. Encourage your child to use the tools that appear at the bottom of the screen in some lessons.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Track and celebrate your child\u2019s progress. Your child should aim for 45 minutes of i-Ready instruction per subject per week and maintain a range of 30\u201349 minutes of online instruction while passing at least 70% of lessons. Contact your child\u2019s teacher about how often your child should practice at home, or with any other questions about i-Ready.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
