This panel was then installed in a park kiosk in Marian Bear Memorial Park. The class took a walking field trip to the park in order to view the panel, which highlights the local snakes that live in the park. Marian Bear was instrumental in preserving the vast open space of San Clemente Canyon just south of the 52 Freeway. She and other community leaders successfully convinced city officials that the freeway should be located above the canyon in the north hillsides rather than in the area of the park. Due to her foresight and perseverance, the 467-acre park, which was rededicated as Marian Bear Memorial Park by the City of San Diego leadership in July 1979, can be enjoyed year-round, offering several miles of accessible hiking trails.<br \/>\nFor more information, visit the Facebook page and www.marianbearreccouncil.wordpress.com.
