It is dedicated to offering gentle, individualized care and support services for residents living with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia, while improving the physical, social, and spiritual capacity of their lives.
Previously, BayView’s charming building was the home of St. Agnes Convent, which began operations in the 1940s. By 1975, the building had been converted for elderly residential care.
BayView is unique in a number of respects. The size of assisted living facilities varies greatly from as few as six beds to as many as 200. BayView has just 17 beds, a size allowing its staff to be on-site 24/7, while offering a higher staff-to-resident ratio.
There are three staff shifts and awake staff on duty all night, providing round-the-clock staff availability. Many of BayView’s caregivers have been there for several years, and have thus developed a rapport with residents and their families.
New BayView owner-operator, administrator Jeff Settineri, said it has been a residential care facility since 1987. He said he’s brought a new approach and attitude.
“We took over from the previous operators in February, and we’ve invested a lot of money into renovation and physical changes,” Settineri said. “We’ve kept a lot of the staff the same because one of the most positive and best parts of BayView is its big-hearted caregivers offering great care to those who live here.”
Settineri noted the facility remains local and family owned and operated with a committed staff with many years of experience with the assisted living community.
Settineri pointed out one caregiver, who’s worked there seven years, has been promoted to house manager. Another, the facility’s food manager, has a strong background as a dietician.
“We have ongoing development of our staff,” noted Settineri adding keeping employees abreast of latest industry developments is the best way to nurture “a really great staff.”
The Sentinerri family has been involved in the senior living industry for more than 20 years.
“We’ve established ourselves around San Diego in the industry specializing in trusts, annuities, financial planning and retirement options,” Jeff Sentinerri said. “That helps us in giving consultations.”
BayView’s new owner noted he has personal experience with dementia care for the elderly, having had a grandmother who was afflicted.
That experience, Sentinerri said, guides his family moving forward.
“We got into it (senior care) to do the right thing and offer good care and services,” he said adding, “We’d like to engage the community. We’re highly motivated to do that.”
Sentinerri said helping people is its own reward. Asked about a favorite memory, he referred to a man named Ron. Ron had been living in a skilled nursing facility for a few weeks before being transferred to BayView by his wife. He had a host of physical issues and was in pretty bad shape; could hardly walk, was unable to get out of bed, had sleepless nights, and spent most of his time immobile.
After having been at BayView for just a couple of months, Sentinerri noticed a dramatic improvement in Ron’s health. Ron now gets around by himself with a walker, can carry on a conversation and has developed close relationships with his caregivers calling them “his ladies.”
For more information about BayView, call (619) 225-5616 or visit www.bayviewpointloma.com.

BayView Senior Assisted Living in Point Loma is under new management and direction.
