There\u2019s a new designer in the neighborhood. Sarah Rummelhoff, creator of RumsBeach, launched her design-inspiring business Oct. 4.
\nRummelhoff was a teen model when she envisioned her own clothing line and store. An entrepreneur-in-the-making since high school, Rummelhoff will graduate from Point Loma Nazarene University in June with a degree in managerial organization communication. “I started saving for this in high school and love the freedom of owning my own business,” she said.
\nInspired by her world travels \u2014including trips to Bermuda, Canada, Costa Rica, Croatia, Greece, Guatemala, Japan, Mexico, Montenegro, Morocco, Portugal, Spain and Turkey \u2014 Rummelhoff\u2019s fashion accessories, clothing and home d\u00e9cor reflect a penchant for unique patterns. “I have a love for fashion, especially when it is simple, comfortable and loose-fitting, but stylish,” she said. “People have commented on my beachy-trendy style, so I wanted to share that with the world.”
\nShe is particularly inspired by Moroccan and Turkish designs, as well as the Indonesian pattern called ikat, which is a form of tie-dyed weaving featured in her clothing and home d\u00e9cor. “San Diego has a distinct culture, especially Ocean Beach, and I want to capture that beachy, flowing style with a modern edge,” said Rummelhoff.
\nRummelhoff\u2019s love of photography is evident in her hands-on approach to locating unique settings to showcase her work. Her fall\/winter line, which became available Dec. 2, was shot at Knapps Castle, surrounded by the Los Padres National Forrest in Santa Barbara. Her new designs will continue to reflect beach culture with scarves and velvet high-waisted shorts, which she said, “will be all the rage.” Headbands, hand chains and purses will also be featured. Rummelhoff\u2019s plans for the future include taking her business to international clients, as well as opening a traditional storefront near the beach. “I see my online store as a showroom \u2014 complete with a look-book,” she said.
