These athletes have competed for years at a top level in their sport and have reached their goal to be recruited and play for a Div. 1 college or university. By signing their NLI letter, they have officially committed to their university. The community of La Jolla and La Jolla High school wishes these athletes much success in their college carriers, in sports as well as academics. Front row: Scarlett Hallahan, water polo, George Washington University; Taylor Bertrand, water polo, Arizona State University; Sarah Young, water polo, Indiana University; and Isabella Spies, rowing, Gonzaga. <b>Calzoncillos deportivos<\/b><br \/>\n<i>Torreys, Knights booted from playoffs \u2014<\/i> Braxton Burmeister displayed good footwork, but it wasn\u2019t quite enough as the La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) Torreys football team suffered a tough 28-14 defeat at the hands of the Clairemont Chieftans in a CIF Div. IV first-round playoff game played at Country Day Nov. 15.<br \/>\nBurmeister, a 5-foot-11-inch, 185-pound freshman quarterback, scored on touchdown runs of 15 and 14 yards in the first and third quarters, respectively, for LJCD.<br \/>\nJunior kicker Grayson Lyman showed a strong leg\u00a0for the Torreys, converting successfully on both of his extra point attempts.<br \/>\nWith the loss, Country Day concludes their season with an overall record of 5-6.<br \/>\nIn other Nov. 15 football action, the Morse Tigers defeated The Bishop\u2019s School Knights by a final score of 56-17 in a CIF Div. III first round playoff game at Morse High School.<br \/>\nBulla Graft, the Knights\u2019 junior running back, ran the ball robustly, scoring on touchdown runs of 4 and 25 yards in the first and fourth quarters, respectively.<br \/>\nJunior kicker Chris Alleyne exhibited a forceful leg, booming\u00a0a 35-yard field goal for Bishop\u2019s.<br \/>\nWith the loss, the Knights concluded their season with an overall record of 7-4. <i>\u2014 Rob Stone<\/i><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eight athletes from La Jolla High School participated in the National Letter of Intent (NLI) signing at the Hall of Champions at Balboa Park.
