Bike paths and parks could be\u00a0extended, and new amenities like pools, sports fields, and a\u00a0restaurant could be added for the community and visitors to enjoy.<br \/>\nThe\u00a0intended result would be creation of an environmental, recreational\u00a0and educational destination at the heart of Mission Bay.\u00a0?&#8221;I\u2019ve gotten tired and frustrated waiting for the city to do something\u00a0about it (project),&#8221; said Chipman noting he lives near the area, which\u00a0he noted is a link to &#8220;the important educational and recreational\u00a0amenities and natural environment of Mission Bay.&#8221;\u00a0?Chipman noted the De Anza peninsula is designated as a &#8220;special study\u00a0area&#8221; within the Mission Bay Master Plan, which is being updated.\u00a0?&#8221;We don\u2019t know what we\u2019re going to do there,&#8221; said Chipman adding,\u00a0&#8220;We\u2019re going to have to do something about that in the future. And\u00a0that future is long overdue.&#8221;\u00a0?Chipman said one possible improvement could be to enhance marshland in\u00a0the area, which could help cleanse runoff from Rose Creek.\u00a0?&#8221;We could expand marshland by 50 acres, which could improve water\u00a0quality by about 50 percent from the Rose Creek outfall, which brings\u00a0unpurified pollution and sediment into Mission Bay,&#8221; Chipman said,\u00a0adding, &#8220;We also have the ability to have a nature interpretive center.&#8221;\u00a0?Chipman added other public improvements connected with the project\u00a0could include adding parking, a new aquatic center with an Olympic-size pool and\/or creating more bike and walking paths, as well as\u00a0enhancing tennis and campground facilities \u2014 even building a public\u00a0amphitheater \u2014 might all be possible.\u00a0?&#8221;Right now PB doesn\u2019t have its own pool and needs more recreation\u00a0space,&#8221; Chipman said, adding area bike paths are also presently not\u00a0connected.\u00a0?&#8221;Those connections are available if we plan properly,&#8221; he said.\u00a0?The community activist said he\u2019s been campaigning to begin vetting\u00a0alternative uses for the Mission Bay Gateway Master Plan, having\u00a0addressed thousands of people in community groups for the past five\u00a0years.\u00a0?&#8221;People love the idea and say they want to get more involved,&#8221; he added.\u00a0?Chipman counseled that the city &#8220;doesn\u2019t just need to study the De\u00a0Anza Peninsula.
