\n– Pacific Beach Middle music students competed in the Music in the Parks competition on May 18, with the Strings Orchestra winning first place with a score of “Superior” and the Concert Band placing second with a score of “Excellent.” Led by PBMS music director John O’Donnell, the musicians enjoyed a day in Knott’s Berry Farm after the competition. “I’m proud of our PBMS musicians for their hard work and dedication,” said O’Donnell. PBE fifth\u00a0grade students took home first\u00a0and second\u00a0place in the Stock Market Game, a\u00a0competition where thousands of students are provided with $100,000 in mock funds to invest in the Stock Market. \n– Students from Barnard Mandarin Magnet Elementary School won seven of the top prizes in the 2019 Chinese Bridge Language Proficiency Competition held at Mission Bay High School on May 8. More than 20 students from the school showcased their Mandarin language proficiency and Chinese cultural talents at this competition, which was hosted by the Education Office, Consulate General of the People\u2019s Republic of China in Los Angeles, and organized by Confucius Institute at San Diego State University.\u00a0 Kate Sessions
