{"id":268428,"date":"2020-05-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-26T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/residents-say-mixed-results-on-sunset-cliffs-memorial-day-weekend-crowds\/"},"modified":"2020-05-26T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-05-26T07:00:00","slug":"residents-say-mixed-results-on-sunset-cliffs-memorial-day-weekend-crowds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/residents-say-mixed-results-on-sunset-cliffs-memorial-day-weekend-crowds\/","title":{"rendered":"Residents say mixed results on Sunset Cliffs Memorial Day weekend crowds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Lots of people, mostly being respectful during the day until the evening, then the usual littering, drinking, and noisy people,&#8221; said Glen Volk, a resident in Sunset Cliffs about holiday weekend visitors in his neighborhood, which has been impacted of late by large rowdy crowds partying late and leaving trash. &#8220;Not the majority, but enough that it was disappointing.&#8221;<br \/>\nNoting crowds may have been smaller and more reserved due to a high-profile police presence, Volk said, &#8220;If [police] had not been here, it probably would have been insane.&#8221;<br \/>\nVolk said the aftermath of the three-day weekend revealed, &#8220;The usual noisy cars and motorcycles.\u00a0 And a lot of trash in the mornings.&#8221;<br \/>\nA man fell from Sunset Cliffs around on Saturday, hurting his back and having to be rescued and hospitalized.<br \/>\n&#8220;How many falls in the last six weeks is that now?\u00a0Four?\u00a0Five?,&#8221; asked Volk. &#8220;This City amazes me that they allow the cliffs to be open at night.\u00a0It sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;From our standpoint, the Sunset Cliffs area did not cause us any issues this past weekend,&#8221; said San Diego Police Department Lt. Shawn Takeuchi. &#8220;This past weekend, we did not issue any citations in the beach areas related to the county\/state health order (social distancing, masks, etc).\u00a0<br \/>\n&#8220;We did issue numerous citations for violations we see daily, which include drinking in public, public urination, dogs off-leash, etc.\u00a0All in all, people were vary compliant.&#8221;<br \/>\nVolk said he did not see or hear any late-night partying, adding: &#8220;But I am somewhat sheltered. I am sure it happened in some areas.&#8221;<br \/>\nNoting Sunset Cliffs&#8217; neighbors have resorted to parking their cars on their streets to block people from parking there and partying at night, Volk said, &#8220;They should not have to do this.&#8221;<br \/>\nAdded Volk: &#8220;The sooner the other beaches are open the better.
