The Bahia Belle cruise will have a great live soundtrack from Carrie Shannon & The Midnight Rollers when it sets sail on July 29. Led by the brassy vocals of Shannon the band is really good at electric Chicago blues, but also turns in sold versions of classic rock favorites such as Eric Clapton\u2019s version of “I Shot The Sheriff” and Stevie Wonder\u2019s “Superstition.” The ship has an ample dance floor with food and drink available, making this the city\u2019s only floating party. Whether you go for the amazing views as you cruise around Mission Bay or the great music, this is one of San Diego\u2019s most unique entertainment experiences. Dizzy\u2019s continues its tradition of being the community\u2019s showcase for music that\u2019s away from the mainstream, but also culturally significant and a joy to listen to, with a performance from Camarada on July 29. Billed as Tango Nuevo: Music by Astor Piazzolla, the night will be devoted to the music of Argentina\u2019s tango music icon with an all-star band that includes flautist Beth Ross Buckley, violinist David Buckley, accordionist Lou Fanucchi, guitarist Fred Benedetti, pianist Dana Burnett, and bassist Jory Herman. The night will also feature an extra visual component with Tango Alma dance, accompanying the musicians. Heavy metal is alive in well in San Diego and for area music fans, the genre\u2019s headquarters is Brick by Brick. On July 30 the venue hosts a CD release show for the new album from Sight Unscene, “While the World Unfolds.” Formed in 2006, the band has released a pair of albums and two EPs, but the new album tops them in both production and songs. Sight Unscene is loud, manic, riff driven music at its best, with the band\u2019s guitarists Mike Halsdorff and Tony LaMarra well worth checking out for anyone who enjoys blistering fretwork. Anyone who enjoys rhythm will want to catch the Bi-National Mambo Orchestra on July 31 at Kate Sessions Park. Part of the free Concerts on the Green music series, this terrific 18-piece combo, led by trumpeter Bill Caballero has only released one album, 2007\u2019s “Standards,” but live is where there is magic. Fans of Latin music and jazz in particular will enjoy the bands version of standards such as “Take Five” and “Satin Doll,” but those who enjoy the precision team work of a big band will be thrilled by the sounds of the Bi-National Mambo Orchestra. Free. www.pbconcerts.org There are plenty of bands in San Diego playing Beatles covers, but nothing quite like the Baja Bugs. Led by two music legends, bassist Hector Penalosa, best known for his work with punk icons, The Zeros, and Ron Silva, frontman for seminal \u201970s R&B kings, The Crawdaddys, the band plays the classic songs you love to sing-a-long to, but without costumes or fake accents. Beyond the music, what they do replicate with ease is the irreverent fun of the original Fab Four \u2013 it\u2019s clear from the moment the Baja Bugs take the stage, that they love what they do, and they do it well. Backed by his band, Wazabe Blue, the saxophonist\u2019s music mixes jazz, funk and recast classic rock, featuring an impressive set list that ranges from Ray Charles to Earth, Wind & Fire, with plenty of songs by newer artists such as Bruno Mars as well. Not just a covers act, Dawson also has a pair of solo albums, most recently, “Romy\u2019s Return,” well worth hearing for fans of smooth jazz.
