This closure occurred just a few days after officials said the area would remain open to the public to comply with a court ruling. The turnabout stemmed from an appellate court ruling that lifted an automatic stay in the case. If the stay had remained in place, the city would have had to allow people onto the beach.<br \/>\nThe city appealed and asked for the automatic stay to be removed now that pupping season has started. City park rangers and lifeguards will monitor the Children’s Pool during the beach closure to keep the public and wildlife safe.<br \/>\nIn the past, the city has closed the pool from Dec. 15 to May 15 during harbor seal pupping season for the beach and surrounding area. The existing rope line which serves as a guide and reminder for the public to keep a safe distance from any seals that may be present will remain in place while the beach remains open. The decision to close the pool was approved by City Council on Mar. 18, 2014.<br \/>\n**In the Dec. 16 edition of the La Jolla Village News, it was reported that the Children’s Pool would remain open. While that information provided (by the city) was correct at the time of publication, the decision was later reversed. We will update this information pending further developments.
