A number of area high school graduates are busy on the collegiate sports scene this winter.
Brittany Rowe (University City High) is a senior forward for the UCLA women’s water polo team.
The Lady Bruins will begin their quest next month for an unprecedented fourth consecutive NCAA championship Jan. 26-27 at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor.
Keller Felt (La Jolla High) is a freshman member of the University of Michigan women’s water polo team, while Sarah Van Norman (The Bishop’s School) is a freshman at USC.
Hilary White (The Bishop’s School) is a sophomore guard\/forward on the Whitman College (Wash.) women’s basketball team. Whitman goes into action this week with a record of 7-3.
Katie Harrison (La Jolla High), a senior forward on the Cal Lutheran women’s basketball team, has seen action in four games to date. The Regals head into play this week with a record of 3-4.
Candice Wiggins (La Jolla Country Day School) continues her outstanding career with the Stanford University women’s basketball team.
Wiggins had 21 points in a 73-54 win over New Mexico last week. With the win, the Lady Cardinal raised its record to 9-1 on the season, winning six straight to date.
Grayson Moyer (La Jolla High) is a senior guard for the Humboldt State men’s basketball team.
The Jacks scored a 95-71 victory over Willamette University last week, with Moyer notching a team-high 18 points in the victory.
Finally, one fall participant wrapped up a stellar season on the volleyball courts.
Nicole Ballon-Landa (The Bishop’s School) completed her season at Williams College (Mass.).
Ballon-Landa was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Rookie of the Year.
A first year middle blocker, Ballon-Landa had a stellar campaign for the Ephs. She was in the top rankings in the league in hitting percentage at .277, the highest percentage by any first-year player, while placing fifth in the conference in blocks at an even 1.0 per game. She has also contributed 2.76 kills per game and 29 service aces for Williams.
The Ephs won their seventh NESCAC Tournament title recently ” their first since 2004 ” by knocking off top-seeded Amherst in the championship match, three games to two.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
