{"id":261859,"date":"2006-10-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-10-26T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/kearney-digs-in-at-bentley-sardo-trojans-roll\/"},"modified":"2006-10-26T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2006-10-26T07:00:00","slug":"kearney-digs-in-at-bentley-sardo-trojans-roll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/kearney-digs-in-at-bentley-sardo-trojans-roll\/","title":{"rendered":"Kearney digs in at Bentley; Sardo, Trojans roll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A number of local graduates are contributing on the collegiate sports scene this fall at their respective schools.<br \/>Alex Kearney (La Jolla High) and the Bentley College (Mass.) women&#8217;s volleyball team continue to roll along.<br \/>Kearney had 14 kills, including 13 in the first two games, as Bentley remained undefeated in Northeast-10 Conference play early last week, sweeping defending NE-10 playoff champion Bryant University in three games.<br \/>Kearney and the Lady Falcons extended their regular season conference (NE-10) winning streak to 28 last Friday in a five-game victory over Le Moyne College.<br \/>In other women&#8217;s volleyball action, Harvard freshman setter Lily Durwood (La Jolla High) handed out 53 assists (5.64 per game) on a weekend earlier this month and added a season-high nine digs against Penn.<br \/>In doing so, she was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.<br \/>Against the Quakers, Durwood handed out 26 assists, recorded nine digs and served three aces. She added five more digs and 17 assists in a loss to Princeton that weekend.<br \/>On the women&#8217;s soccer scene, University of California, San Diego (UCSD) held on for a narrow 1-0 victory on the road at San Francisco State last Friday.<br \/>With the win, the Lady Tritons improve to 15-1-2 overall and 12-1-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.<br \/>Among the UCSD players with goals this season are Lauren Segars (University City High) with three and Laura Borenstein (La Jolla High) with a pair.<br \/>In men&#8217;s water polo, top-ranked USC rolled up a 20-8 win over visiting St. Francis last Sunday behind goals from 12 different Trojans.<br \/>The 20-goal performance also marked USC&#8217;s 20th straight home victory, and brings the Trojans&#8217; overall winning streak to 36 games. Now 17-0 on the year, the Trojans got a pair of goals from Nico Sardo (The Bishop&#8217;s School).<br \/>Andrew Kushnir (The Bishop&#8217;s School) is a member of the Whittier College men&#8217;s water polo team.
