Some 350 women from near and far came to the University of San Diego April 15 to try out for one of sport’s top dance teams, the San Diego Charger Girls.
Compitiendo por uno de los pocos lugares en el equipo, las j\u00f3venes pasaron por audiciones iniciales, y las que continuaron tuvieron que sentarse para las entrevistas y una audici\u00f3n final antes de que se eligiera el equipo de 2006.
A number of area women put their best foot forward to make the squad. Among those trying out were University of California, San Diego student Jennifer Bulgin, along with Pacific Beach residents Katie Shaw, Evelyn Damford and Dawn Jansen.
According to Bulgin, who is a dance major in college, making the squad would be a surreal opportunity.
\u201cMe encantar\u00eda formar parte del equipo y representar a San Diego de manera positiva\u201d, dijo Bulgin.
Antes de las audiciones, Bulgin dijo que se sent\u00eda c\u00f3moda y que solo iba a salir y divertirse.
As with Bulgin, this was also the first time trying out for Shaw, Damford and Jansen.
Shaw dijo que ingres\u00f3 a las pruebas con una actitud positiva y sinti\u00f3 que ser\u00eda una buena experiencia.
“Having grown up here, it would be amazing to make the squad,” Shaw noted.
Damford, quien asisti\u00f3 a la escuela en Florida International y anteriormente hizo una prueba para el equipo de baile de los Miami Dolphins, estuvo de acuerdo en que era una oportunidad emocionante para todas las mujeres presentes.

Jansen noted as she warmed up prior to the auditions that she felt she performed better in front of larger crowds.
“I don’t know quite what to expect, but I’m going into it with an open mind,” she commented.
Seg\u00fan la ex Charger Girl y actual directora del equipo, Lisa Simmons, se necesita mucho trabajo para organizar las audiciones cada primavera.

Habiendo pasado por este proceso ella misma, Simmons tambi\u00e9n se\u00f1al\u00f3 que sab\u00eda por lo que estaban pasando las mujeres.
Junto con las que hicieron la prueba por primera vez, 20 Charger Girls de la temporada pasada tambi\u00e9n estaban probando para el equipo de 2006, con 28 lugares en juego.
