El evento insignia de I Love A Clean San Diego (ILACSD), Creek to Bay Cleanup, se est\u00e1 preparando para su 12.\u00aa entrega el s\u00e1bado 26 de abril para ayudar a restaurar la naturaleza pr\u00edstina de las v\u00edas fluviales y las playas de la regi\u00f3n.
\nEl evento se llevar\u00e1 a cabo desde las 9 am hasta el mediod\u00eda como parte de la Gran Limpieza Estadounidense nacional, incluidos los sitios de limpieza en Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, La Jolla, Mission Beach y Mission Bay. Miles de voluntarios se reunir\u00e1n en m\u00e1s de 90 sitios costeros y del interior del condado de San Diego para ayudar a preservar el medio ambiente local limpiando y embelleciendo estas \u00e1reas al aire libre. Hace doce a\u00f1os, ILACSD organiz\u00f3 su primera limpieza de Creek a Bay con solo 27 sitios de limpieza y 2,000 voluntarios. El evento ha seguido creciendo y ahora es uno de los eventos de limpieza m\u00e1s importantes del a\u00f1o en el condado de San Diego. En 2013, unos 6000 voluntarios retiraron 100 toneladas de escombros de sus comunidades locales durante el evento de tres horas. Los voluntarios tambi\u00e9n realizar\u00e1n estarcidos en desag\u00fces pluviales, paisajismo y eliminaci\u00f3n de grafitis. \n“As I Love A Clean San Diego celebrates its 60th anniversary year, it is more important than ever that our events, such as the Creek to Bay Cleanup, work to build the next generation of environmental stewards,” said Pauline Martinson, executive director of I Love A Clean San Diego. “Through these cleanup efforts, volunteers young and old will be empowered to take action in preserving our local environment.”
\n\u00a0The Creek to Bay Cleanup is one of a handful of community engagement projects coordinated by ILACSD each year. The organization has been mobilizing volunteers around beautification and pollution prevention projects since 1954. Combined, volunteers remove an astounding one million pounds of debris every two years.
\nCleanup sites will include beaches, bays, canyons, creek beds and urban areas throughout San Diego County from Oceanside to Tijuana, as well as Ocean Beach to Alpine. While beach and bay locations are always popular for participants, ILACSD organizers point out many other inland locations are in desperate need of help, too, because there is a strong emphasis on protecting inland communities and preventing marine pollution before it reaches local waterways.
