Music is back for the summer at Mission Beach mainstay, The Wavehouse. Beginning June 4 and running through Aug. 20, each Saturday the venue will host a new music series, “Strummin\u2019 through Summer,” featuring some of San Diego\u2019s best known singer-songwriters. Upcoming shows include Casey Turner (June 25) and Tolan Shaw (Aug. 20), with Raelee Nikole kicking off the series on June 4. Nikole is a real talent, with a charming stage presence that draws the listener in and a voice that\u2019s full of both innocence and emotion. Mixing both excellent originals and choice covers of the likes of Bonnie Raitt and Norah Jones, Nikole sets the bar high for future series performers. Raelee Nikole: Saturday, June 4 at the Wavehouse, 3125 Oceanfront Walk. $30. 8 p.m. 21 and up. www.myspace.com\/londonsfalling The hardest working band in San Diego on June 4 just may be Americana combo Finnegan Blue, who will perform an acoustic set at City Heights street fair, Art Around Adams at 5 p.m., before heading out to a 9:30 p.m., full-band affair at the 710 Beach Club. Performing Americana topped by the harmonies of Anna Lee and Willie Fleming, the band has a slew of really good original songs as well as a repertoire of classic tunes from such radio staples as CS&N and The Allman Brothers. Both shows will be well worth attending, but the edge goes to the full band gig, where the rhythm section adds a slightly harder edge to their sound. Finnegan Blue: Saturday June 4, at the 710 Beach Club, 710 Garnet Ave. 9:30 p.m. 21 and up. www.710bc.com Mission Bay High School\u2019s acclaimed music program will present their annual spring concert on June 3 at the school\u2019s auditorium. All the school\u2019s combos including the Mission Bay Choir, jazz ensemble, The Preservationists and the new Mambo Orchestra will perform, led by MBHS music director, JP Balmat. While the school has long been known as a starting point for many musicians, it\u2019s under Balmat\u2019s tenure that the program has really caught fire, keeping traditions while updating both the look and sound of its young musicians. Anyone looking to help the support local arts would do well to check out this concert, you\u2019ll be seriously impressed by this next generation of musicians. MBHS Spring Concert: Friday, June 3 at Mission Bay High School, 2475 Grand Ave. 7 p.m. All Ages. www.missionbaymusic.com Brick by Brick has a rep for booking the area\u2019s best hard rock concerts, but for the weekend of June 3 to 5, they\u2019ve really outdone themselves, booking four classic metal bands of the 1970s and 1980s, Anvil (June 3), The Obsessed (June 4) and Armored Saint with Metal Church (June 5). Stylistically diverse, none of the groups has tasted mainstream success, but all have maintained a solid fan base through touring. Both Anvil and Metal Church are touring in support of new music, but these shows biggest cheers will be for vintage favorites. Metal Weekend: Friday to Sunday, June 3 to 5, at Brick by Brick, 1130 Buenos Ave. 8 p.m. 21 and up. www.brickbybrick.com Jazz and violin fans won\u2019t want to miss Chris Vitas appearance at Dizzy\u2019s on June 11. Part of the acclaimed Celtic group, Keltic Kharma, Vitas will be celebrating the release of his first jazz album, “Willow Weep For Me,” backed by an all-star combo featuring Sky Ladd (keys), Justin Grinnell (bass) and Duncan Moore (drums). The night will include songs by Vitas as well as a range of covers by the likes of Herbie Hancock and Antonio Carlos Jobim, with a special bonus set in tribute to legendary violinist Jean Luc Ponty. Chris Vitas: Saturday June 11 at Dizzy\u2019s, 4275 Mission Bay Drive. 8 p.m. $15. www.dizzysjazz.com If there is such a thing as rock royalty in San Diego, surely Jerry Raney is king? For the past 50-plus years Raney has provided locals with great rock \u2019n\u2019 roll, as a member of such legendary combos as the Roosters, Glory and now, The Farmers, who will perform at Humphrey\u2019s Backstage Live on June 11. Whether they are playing classics from Chuck Berry or the Yardbirds, or playing any of their terrific originals, Raney and his bandmates, including drummer Joel Kmak and bassist Chris Sullivan, never fail to deliver this town\u2019s best barroom rock and blues.
