It\u2019s like nightclub meets fight club. That\u2019s how Rock Box Fitness owner Kim Ryan described her new state-of-the-art fitness franchise, which opened in March at 1896 Garnet Ave. in Pacific Beach.\u00a0
\nA\u00a0former pharmaceutical sales rep and ultra-marathoner, Ryan is putting her best foot \u2013 and fist \u2013 forward with her new studio.
\n“We rock out in here,” said Ryan of her wide-open space filled with kicking and punching bags and an assortment of free weights. “Every class is set to fun, high-energy music.You can see all our lights that multi color and strobe. We really try and make it a fun atmosphere.”
\nRockBox is not about sparring in rings, but rather about boxing, kickboxing and functional training.\u00a0
\n“We like to say, \u2018We don\u2019t hit people, we hit bags,\u2019” Ryan said. “We want people to get a good workout and have fun while they do it. Every class is a group fitness class. Every single class is different.”
\nRyan promises her patrons they won\u2019t be bored.
\n“We want to change it up every day so you\u2019re always doing different workouts,” she said. “There are a million different combinations and workouts that we can do. Any time you go to RockBox Fitness, you don\u2019t know what you\u2019re going to get, but you know you\u2019re going to sweat.”
\nRyan caters to “people of all shapes, sizes and abilities. We can fit up to 40 people in a class. We have people who\u2019ve never worked out before, who want to get into shape or lose weight. I had a woman here who\u2019s on diabetes medication. I have a guy who is now almost off his blood pressure medication. I\u2019ve got ladies telling me they\u2019re wearing clothes they haven\u2019t worn in years. We\u2019re truly getting some big, life-changing results.”
\nRockBox PB is also a true mom-and-pop. Ryan held her grand opening in early March, and delivered her second child the very next day.
\n“It was a weekend my family will never forgot,” she said. “I kept telling them, \u2018I want to make it to my own grand opening. He (son) let me get there, but then the next day \u2026”
\nRockBox has four different membership types from which to choose, ranging from unlimited training sessions to private lessons. Each trainer is professionally certified, accredited and has years of experience boxing, kickboxing, and working with a full range of clients.\u00a0
\nOf the benefits of boxing and kicking, Ryan said, “You\u2019re using your entire body as you\u2019re kickboxing. It\u2019s very core-intensive. It\u2019s very cardiovascular so your heart rate\u2019s going, you\u2019re burning calories, it\u2019s stress relieving.”
\nRockBox workouts are 50 minutes long. “We maximize that 50 minutes. There\u2019s no down time,” said Ryan.
\nMembers come first at RockBox. “We are invested in all of our members,” said Ryan. “We know every single member individually, what their goals are, so we can help them achieve their goals whether it\u2019s weight loss, muscle gain, tightening or toning, getting off medication, leading a healthier lifestyle, whatever it is.” RockBox Fitness
