Track and field In track and field action under head coach Danny Perez, the boys finished the season undefeated to take the league title with a 7-0 record. This means back-to-back perfect league championships for the Bucs, winners of 18 duals in a row.<br \/>\nThe girls had a solid season as well, finishing 5-2. This was the second year they were in third place with the same record.<br \/>\nIn action last Friday, the Bucs had a number of individual champions at the City League Championships.<br \/>\nThese included Nick Archer (triple jump of 42 feet 11 inches and high jump 5 feet 8 inches, was a three-way tie); Brooklynn Grooms (pole vault of 8 feet 7 inches, a new MBHS record); Jesus Hernandez (110mH in 19.26a). All move on to Saturday&#8217;s CIF Prelims at Mt. Carmel High.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\nAlec Plotegher placed second in the long jump at 20 feet 11 inches and third in the triple jump with a leap of 42 feet; Blake Edmunds took second in the 400m at 53.89a; and TK Berhe was second in the 1600m at 4:44.46a.<br \/>\n&#8220;I am very proud of how this team, despite being a small size, came together and really pushed. We go onto CIF hoping for more success,&#8221; Perez stated.<br \/>\nPerez wanted to thank his seniors in the Class of 2018.<br \/>\nAccording to Perez, Hernandez is headed to UC Davis, Edmunds to the University of Miami (Ohio), Janiese Waites is off to Claremont Mudd Scripps, Crystal Ollison to San Francisco State University and Yazmine Jiminez to San Diego State. Softball<br \/>\nThe Bucs headed into the week under head coach Vince Ichihara with a record of 19-5, one of the best records in school history for softball.<br \/>\nMission Bay finished as league champs with a 10-1 record. The Bucs entered the playoffs this week as the No. 6 seed.<br \/>\n&#8220;We have had a really good regular season to follow up on last year\u2019s championship game run and look to see if we can keep the playoff magic going this season,&#8221; Ichihara remarked. Baseball<br \/>\nThe Bucs, under head coach Dennis Pugh, headed into play this week for their final two games with a mark of 8-16.<br \/>\nAccording to Pugh, key players to date have included Zay Pena, Aiden Young and Parker St. Germain.<br \/>\n&#8220;All have been pitching and hitting well,&#8221; Pugh commented. &#8220;It is disappointing we have lost so many close games. A lot of that has been because of\u00a0inexperience.&#8221;<br \/>\nPugh noted that help is on the way, stating the young freshmen class is doing well this season. Boys volleyball The Bucs finished at 6-8 and narrowly missed out on the playoffs.\u00a0 &#8220;We came into the season knowing this would be a rebuilding year and the boys really played well throughout the season,&#8221; said head coach Nikki Caufield. &#8220;The boys lost four matches this season in five games for a total of 13 points. Had we been able to pull out those five-set losses, we would have been one of the top seeds in our division,&#8221; Caufield said. \u00a0 Overall, the team posted the highest win percentage in over a decade.\u00a0 Junior Zander Caufield led the team in passing, digs, was second in hitting percentage and led all Division III players in aces.\u00a0Junior Josh Leone led all Division III players in hitting percentage and led the team in blocks.\u00a0Senior Stephen Tarbell led the team in total kills. \u00a0<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the school year winding down, a number of sports teams at Mission Bay are at or nearing the end of their respective seasons.
