Voices for Children CASA Volunteer Info Session<\/strong>
\nHelp youth in foster care by volunteering with Voices for Children today! As a court-appointed special advocate volunteer, you will work with a child or teen in foster care by advocating for their needs while serving as a consistent and supportive person in their life. Attending a volunteer information session is the first step to becoming a CASA volunteer. To reserve a space for one of these sessions, please call 858-598-2243. \"Calendar:Hillcrest Wind Ensemble: Home for the Holidays<\/strong>
\nUnder the direction of Artistic Director John Winkleman and Associate Director Christian Tordahl, the Hillcrest Wind Ensemble will feature music celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, and Viennese New Year, as well as the world premiere of an exciting new piece. The ensemble welcomes back vocalist Leviticus. A no-host bar and a chance to win fantastic opportunity drawing prizes will round out the evening. North Park Christmas Concert\"Calendar:<\/strong>Missiongathering Church will host its annual “A North Park Christmas” Concert fundraiser, seeking to raise the funds needed to cover the costs of legal expenses in order to reopen their shelter and concert space. The church is fighting for its survival while in a legal battle with the city. The event will feature an hour-long holiday concert featuring the churches very own jazz band and will be hosted by local comedian Paige Kate. The church nursery will also be hosting a Christmas pajama party, screening a holiday film for children so that parents can enjoy the event. The community is invited to attend this Christmas concert, taking place from 6-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14th at the churches campus in North Park, better known as The Irenic (3090 Polk Ave.). A donation of $10 is suggested, but the event is open to everyone regardless of financial means.<\/p>\n

Babycakes Grand Opening<\/strong>
\n\"Calendar:It’s been over a year since Babycakes moved out of Hillcrest, but get ready because they’re back! Their grand opening will happen on December 14. There will be an official ribbon-cutting, giveaways, and specials. The neighborhood sweet spot has taken over the space that once housed Pinkberry located at 3795 Fourth Avenue at the prominent corner of Fourth & Robinson, just a block from their former location on Fifth Avenue. Migrant Posada<\/strong>

The Marston House: Architectural Details of Master Architects Hebbard & Gill\"Calendar:<\/strong>Take a walk on the architectural side with a 90-minute guided tour of the 1905 Marston House Museum inside and out. The San Diego firm of Hebbard & Gill designed the inviting English Arts & Crafts mansion with fluid indoor-outdoor connections. Irving Gill, who soon became San Diego’s pioneering modernist, created many of its design features and innovative conveniences. This tour was curated for SOHO by Erik Hanson, a leading authority on Gill and contributor to the book \u201cIrving Gill and the Architecture of Reform\u201d by Thomas S. Hines. The story begins at the carriage house for the estate (now SOHO’s Marston House Museum Shop), then circles around the house in its Balboa Park and formal garden setting. Inside and out, architectural and construction details and period materials are highlighted, and include the Marston family’s public and private rooms. Managed by SOHO for the City of San Diego, this property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 2:30-4 p.m. at 3525 Seventh Ave.<\/p>\n

Santa\u2019s Orders\"Calendar:<\/strong>Join us as our OUT LGBTQ servicemembers come together to celebrate the holidays to help raise funds for upcoming LGBTQ military events in 2020! \nSan Diego residents and out-of-town visitors are invited to extend their holiday celebrations at Balboa Park\u2019s annual Holiday Food Truck Festival. For five days between Christmas and New Year\u2019s Day (December 26-30), the Balboa Park Conservancy is hosting free live entertainment under the Plaza de Panama\u2019s dazzling holiday light display along with activities for families. More than a dozen local food trucks are serving up a diverse selection of gourmet dishes and desserts, and select museums are presenting their own brand of holiday-themed fun.
