The boutique exercise arena offers fitness enthusiasts of all ages and fitness levels rides described as \u201cunparalleled, multisensory, intoxicating journeys.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>High-intensity, calorie-clobbering, 45- to 50-minute sweat-fests are fueled by pulsating music and energetic instructors. A snazzy, three-tiered CycleTheatre features a state-of-the-art surround sound system and LED disco lighting. Forty-four top-of-the-line Schwinn Carbon Blues are equipped with personal performance monitors and two upper-body weighted bars. Riders have an obstructed view of the mirror and the instructor nestled atop a podium.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_32256\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32256\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-32256 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/CBhillcrest-56.jpg\" alt=\"Rock the ride\" width=\"600\" height=\"560\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/560;\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-32256\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The CycleBar Hillcrest staff <em>(Courtesy of CycleBar)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Two 85-inch television screens are perched high above the podium energizing riders to dance to synchronized music videos and track class\/individual performance data mapped in real time. CycleStats \u2014 class ranking and performance stats \u2014 are emailed within minutes of class completion. Instructor playlists are also linked to Spotify post class for members to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>Riders are greeted by a fresh scent of eucalyptus upon arrival. A cheery lobby stands adjacent to a co-ed locker room, a water station that offers cold and room-temperature water, two unisex restrooms, and two private showers replete with body wash, shampoo and conditioner. Pampering amenities include complimentary cycling shoes, free water bottles, hair ties, lip balm, earplugs and cooled aromatherapy eucalyptus-infused post-workout towels.<\/p>\n<p>Franchise owner Bob Franzetta described the boutique cycling studio as a fitness regime that \u201cconcentrates on doing one thing very, very well\u201d while touting a business template that\u2019s \u201cnot just a ride.\u201d In addition to its signature amenities, CycleBar offers a \u201csuperior cycling experience\u201d in an environment that fosters community, a feat \u201cdifficult to do in a large facility that\u2019s part of an overall portfolio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCycleBar is multisensory experience that offers a mixed population of diverse ages more than just a ride.\u201d he said. \u201cPeople of like interests meet here and make friends. Over time, people naturally socialize outside of CycleBar. We\u2019re building community in today\u2019s world of online communities where most people don\u2019t even know their neighbors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Franzetta, chief financial officer at a local software company, describes himself as an \u201cactive user in boutique fitness.\u201d The veteran marathon runner \u2014 26 marathons including nine Boston Marathon qualifiers \u2014 sought CycleBar as business because its cardio-intensive workout reflects \u201cwho I am.\u201d Franzetta said he endured an extensive vetting process to become a franchise owner to ensure that he was the \u201cright person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCycleBar\u2019s a great fit for me,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re part fitness and part entertainment. People attend having made a wellness decision. But they also come because it\u2019s fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Classes are structured for safety and performance. Prior to class, \u201crider experienced specialists\u201d assist with \u201csafe\u201d bike set-up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s amazing how many studios don\u2019t do that,\u201d Franzetta said. \u201cWe give riders the tools to cycle properly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Easy to read, lit monitors convey real-time performance statistics. Weight, age and gender profiles \u2014 information given upon registration \u2014 are incorporated into the mix. Measurements include resistance levels \u201cto avoid blindly turning left or right,\u201d RPMs \u2014 revolutions per minute, power tabulated as watts, calories burned and class ranking. Participants choose to opt in or out of the \u201cleaderboard\u201d challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople generally say yes to watching their progress on the leaderboard because racing\u2019s fun,\u201d Franzetta said. \u201cInstructors race rows, men versus women, odd or even bikes \u2014 they mix it up. Racing is friendly competition and teamwork.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Instructors, referred to as CycleStars, are noted as \u201cequal parts educator, inspirer, magician, DJ, drill sergeant and friend.\u201d The cycle aficionados strive to \u201cchange your life, one ride at a time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Franzetta took \u201chundreds\u201d of cycling classes before auditions narrowed down the studio list to nine. Franzetti described the CycleBar Method Training as an \u201cexcessive process\u201d that \u201cleaves instructors prepared and knowledgeable.\u201d No one ever \u201cwings\u201d class.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstructors don\u2019t bring anything to class,\u201d he said. \u201cThey prepare. They know the class they\u2019ll teach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Music is chosen off-site and submitted into the CycleBar system. Workouts are never repeated. Instructors are encouraged to \u201cmix up\u201d their music to \u201ckeep it edgy and creative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMusic is key to the CycleBar brand,\u201d Franzetta said. \u201cSprints work with movement. Riders dance on the bike, backed by science. Nothing is pre-packaged. No corporate templates. Our instructors develop their own classes according to our guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>CycleStar Leah Rich describes teaching as a \u201cunique experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClass doesn\u2019t feel like a workout until you\u2019re drenched in sweat,\u201d she said. \u201cThe CycleBar brand offers a community environment that feels like a party. Instructors work hard to offer the best in personality, performance, safety, instruction and enthusiastic cheerleading. We\u2019re DJs and light masters creating an environment that doesn\u2019t feel like a workout.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rich described CycleBar\u2019s instructor certification training as \u201cexhausting\u201d and \u201camazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re bonded as a team,\u201d she said. \u201cI know the hard work we put in to being the best as part of the CycleBar brand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rich detailed the brand as a challenging yet safely structured class. Moving from drill to drill, nothing is \u201cchoppy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe go all out,\u201d she continued. \u201cWe create our own playlist and class structure, but follow guidelines to do so in a thoughtful way. CycleBar\u2019s catch phrase, \u2018hugs and high-fives,\u2019 creates a positive community environment. Every instructor is unique \u2014 no cookie cutters here.\u00a0 I can recommend a class that would suit every rider.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CycleBar also offers two, 30-minute \u201cFree Intro to CycleBar\u201d classes. Class schedules are established by studio demographics and location.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe schedule classes for the Hillcrest market,\u201d Franzetta concluded. \u201cIf you live within three miles of this complex, you\u2019re coming here at least three times a week.
