Una de esas \u00e1reas que se est\u00e1 recuperando se conoce como Spinnerei.<\/p>\n<p>Situated in an industrial zone and constructed with tons of red bricks, the building was once the largest cotton mill in Europe.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28266 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/web-Spinnerei.jpg\" alt=\"Leipzig\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/393;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Today, it houses 12 galleries and around 100 artist studios, including works from artists like Neo Rauch of the New Leipzig School of modern German painting.<\/p>\n<p>The Leipzig Opera House is known as the third oldest bourgeois musical stage in Europe and is as beautiful inside as it is outside. It is located on what used to be known as Karl Marx Square, the site of the Quiet or Peaceful Revolution of 1989.<\/p>\n<p>Today, a wide variety of musical programs are available from modern opera to Baroque music to ballets.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28268 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/web-Leipzig-opera-house.jpg\" alt=\"Leipzig\" width=\"600\" height=\"392\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/392;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looking something like a large green-hued cube, the Museum der Bildenden K\u00fcnste, or fine art museum, houses more than 3,500 paintings and features works by Degas, Monet and Max Klinger.<\/p>\n<p>Other museums are the Bach Museum, STASI Museum and GRASSI Museum of Applied Arts. The latter includes more than 1,500 works inspired by the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_28267\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28267\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-28267 size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/web-Old-City-Hall-Leipzig.jpg\" alt=\"Leipzig\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/400;\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-28267\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The old City Hall building in Leipzig, Germany<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Beautiful buildings are everywhere and the Old City Hall is a glorious example of Renaissance-period architecture.<\/p>\n<p>On weekends, the adjacent market square comes alive with vendors turning the area into a farmers\u2019 market and offering everything from eggs to cheese to flowers.<\/p>\n<p>Each hour, the clock tower chimes as if to punctuate the unfailing spirit of the city.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Culinario<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-28279 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/web-Cake-at-Coffe-Baum-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Leipzig\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/225;\" \/>The so-called coffee culture is in full brew mode here, and the Zum Arabischen Coffe Baum is one of the oldest surviving coffee houses in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Bach, Goethe and Robert Schumann are among its famous guests.<\/p>\n<p>Upstairs is a coffee museum with 500 or so interesting coffee-related exhibits.<\/p>\n<p>Another one, Coffee House Riquet, can be recognized by the two elephant heads above the main door, a nod by the architect to the area\u2019s Asian trading links.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-28280 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/web-Local-beer-in-Leipzig-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Leipzig\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 200px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 200\/300;\" \/>This is a good place to sit, relax and enjoy local coffee and cake.<\/p>\n<p>You will never go hungry as Leipzig has more than 1400 pubs and restaurants as well as sidewalk cafes.<\/p>\n<p>Many locals affectionately refer to the latter as LE\u2019s, from the German word <em>F<\/em><em>reisitz <\/em>Sit outside and watch the world go by while indulging in local cuisine or beer.<\/p>\n<p>Grilled bratwurst with German mustard was something I could always find from local vendors, and this is simple, culinary nirvana when served on a crispy roll.<\/p>\n<p>The most famous restaurant in Leipzig is Auersbachs Keller, mentioned in Goethe\u2019s \u201cFaust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Located downstairs in a shopping arcade, this establishment was started as a wine bar for students. Its origins can be traced perhaps all the way back to 1438.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-28278 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/web-Roulad-at-Auersbachs-Keller-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Leipzig\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/225;\" \/>Nowadays, they serve local cuisine, and their roulade with red cabbage and dumplings is among the best you will find anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>Overlooking Market Square and the Old City Hall, Restaurant Weinstock serves local German cuisine and seasonal specials.<\/p>\n<p>Everything here is prepared fresh and might include roast duck, white asparagus, locally caught fish, butter schnitzel, and potato pancakes with applesauce.<\/p>\n<p>During autumn, one entree features fresh chanterelles with pan fried bacon and onions and a bread dumpling (18 euros).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-28284 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/web-Restaurant-Weinstock-Leipzig-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Leipzig\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 200px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 200\/300;\" \/>They have a nice wine selection, and you can savor your candlelight meal in one of the most historic sections of Leipzig.<\/p>\n<p>While you\u2019re here, you will also want to try some of the local delicacies.<\/p>\n<p>Leipziger Allerlei is a vegetable dish made with carrots, asparagus, cauliflower, morel mushrooms, prawns and bread dumplings.<\/p>\n<p>Another local dish is Leipziger Lerche, developed in response to the banning of lark hunting by the King of Saxony in 1876.<\/p>\n<p>This alternative is made with short-crust pastry, almonds, marzipan and nuts, all topped with a drop of strawberry jam in what resembles a bird\u2019s nest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compras<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are many other things to see and do here, and shopping ranks high on the list by visitors.<\/p>\n<p>You can start spending your euros as soon as you get to the Leipzig Central Train Station (one of the largest in Europe), which has been converted into a colorful three-floor, 140-shop retail extravaganza.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28270 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/web-Led-lit-store-in-the-old-town-square-at-night.jpg\" alt=\"Leipzig\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/400;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you leave the railway station, you\u2019ll find many high-end shops along the Nikolaistra\u00dfe including H&amp;M, Breuninger and Karstadt.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the old passageways have been restored into a honeycomb network of about 30 covered arcades, 20 of which are original around the inner city.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28271 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/web-MAIN-Shop-at-Leipzig-train-station.jpg\" alt=\"Leipzig\" width=\"600\" height=\"342\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/342;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The M\u00e4dler Passage, built between 1912-14, was patterned after the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan.
